This workshop will introduce you to the techniques I use to create my birds; these include, choosing an image and suitable fabric, simplifying an image to create a simple pattern and stitching the bird and background fabric. Theres lots of information to cover in a day course and it is unlikely you will completely finish the piece in a day (especially the backing). By the end of the day I will have discussed each stage and provide you with a set of instructions explaining each process, this will allow you to finish your own birds final details at home.
It would be ideal, if you’re not already familiar with free-machine embroidery on your machine to have an experiment before the workshop.
I will provide packs of the fabric required for bird and backing plus the backing wadding, all the templates and notes required. These kits are £8/person(2023) these will keep your costs down as you need very little of each fabric.
What the course will cover –
- Introduction to creating a fabric image from a photograph. The importance of fabric selection to achieve realistic results.
- Using fabric paint to add small details.
- Free machine embroidery – how to stitch to create a more 3d image.
- Using machine stitch to create realistic feather details and the importance of thread colour selection
- Creating and stitching a background scene appropriate to your study.
