Somerset Levels Reserves project

The initial concept for the solo exhibition at Ace Arts was to feature the birds thriving and surviving on the Somerset Levels; the more I read around the subject it felt important to include the nature reserves on the Somerset Levels that support the wildlife that lives and migrates there.

My dad was a geography teacher and my husbands grandfather worked for the Ordnance Survey so maps have been part of our life. Maps are in them selves beautiful engaging pieces of art so the idea was to make small maps of some of the main reserves on the Levels using free-motion embroidery, paint and numerous French knots.
